Spring 2025 update

I definitely have taken a Duolingo break but we are back!!

I'm not sticking to one language at the moment and am struggling to focus and buckle down but I'm rebuilding the language learning habit.

Portuguese
I completed the Portuguese tree years ago so I'm doing that review. I'm also doing Spanish through Portuguese. And Portuguese through English.

Outside of Duolingo, I'm sad to say my Portuguese is getting pretty rough. Listening and speaking are not working these days

Italian
Italian I'm working on it. I did not meet my Italian goals for this Italy trip and actually did HORRIBLY with it on the trip. This happens.

Hindi
Hindi lessons are really hard right now and have taken 15 min to get through sometimes.

I'm progressing for sure. I used it out of actual necessity in Italy a bit and at a hotel in San Francisco. But overall I'm pretty shy practicing these days.

Latin
I'm starting Latin... That's my current obsession. Not sure how long it will last but it's been fascinating to see how close it is to Italian and then Spanish especially.

The classical education model is convincing a bit that Latin ought to be taught after phonics in the Kindergarten-ish or in the Kinderlaben years.

Alphabets
I'm also working on the Arabic script for Urdu/Hindi and reviewing the Hindi script though the Hindi course on Duolingo is not the best...

The Greek alphabet has been good to relearn. I'm not interested in learning modern Greek, but if they every create a Bíblical Greek, maybe

Chinese
Of course I dabble in Chinese and Chinese characters. I'm not sure I will ever go beyond just far enough to make telemarketers mad... But it's fun and aesthetically pleasing.

Music
I'm dabbling in the music course on Duolingo as well, but I find it really difficult. I can't feel the beat with my phone so it's difficult for tasks I should know. It definitely feels too easy but too hard to test out. I feel that with Italian rn too.

Math
I'm actually going through the math. It's been really good for learning how to use manipulatives with my pre-schooler.

As I'm learning about math acquisition I'm leaning towards aquiring some abacus skills so I'm playing around there as well. It's not a language but feels like Morse Code, which I did learn over Covid - and have since forgotten most.
